Author's Note (Infinity)
Late one sleep deprived night on February 5th, 2010, I made a poorly thought-out choice.
I made myself an account on deviantART.
At the time, it had seemed like a good idea, but upon waking up the next morning, I realized just how poor of a choice it was, because I had absolutely nothing that I could use the account for. Granted, I was once very active in the world of art in my childhood and youth, having envisioned myself as one day pursuing a career of some sort in art. But my art skills eventually plateaued, and refused to advance any further, leaving it at a spot that even I knew that I could not make a career out of. So by that point in time, I had all but given it up, pursuing instead my skills in writing, and quickly was making leaps and strides in writing where I was not in drawing. Upon discovering deviantART, my interest in art had been rekindled some, but not enough for me to get back into the mix of things, and I didn't really like the idea of having an account on the site unless I actually used it to post something in return. Because of this, I was nearly tempted to close the account as soon as I had opened it.
Yet I didn't. Instead, I let the account be, and ended up only really using it so I could bypass the ads deviantART was using at the time for the next few months.
This eventually proved to be a good thing, because in June 2010, I finally decided that I needed to use the account for something, and so I started digging out some of the old artwork I had made over the years, whatever I felt might be worth sharing. This went on for the rest of the month, until, for reasons I have since forgotten, I found myself doodling on the back of a packet of papers for a history class I was attending at college at the time, and before I knew it, I was actively drawing again. By July, I was producing new, fresh, art for deviantART, and was feeling confident enough that I decided I should pursue some kind of ongoing art project through which to entertain me in my spare time, and to use as a means to further hone my suddenly-growing again skills. Since I had always fancied cartooning, I decided I'd start a comic of some sort.
And it was through that line of thought that I eventually began "Infinity" on July 6th, 2010.
Inspired by various other sci-fi productions I knew of at the time mixed in with a few elements of my own, "Infinity" was always experimental. It was done with the idea of being a "testing grounds" of sorts for me to use and be able to kind of self-teach myself new tricks of art and to get a feel for the particulates of operating a comic. With the first strips being rather poorly drawn, scanned, and colored, as well with only a vague idea of a plot and a plan for what I wanted to do with it, I never expected "Infinity" to make it big. And to my predictions, it didn't. But that was never the goal. It was a personal project for me to use to gauge where I was in the art world and for determining what I wanted to do to improve, and to test out new things as I learned them. And for that purpose, "Infinity" has served well, and it has, indeed, come a long way since that first strip.
Unfortunately, even though it has made such good progress, it eventually got to a point that I couldn't meet the demands of life and "Infinity" at the same time. It was starting to take too much time and effort to continue to produce at an ideal rate, and that slow rate wasn't helping it any. Furthermore, I did not wish to scale it back any, as that would make it feel like a shadow of itself, so, with some regret, I decided to cut "Infinity" short and decided in October 2012 that I would be halting "Infinity" upon the completion of the sixteenth strip. At this time, I am not currently making more strips for "Infinity."
However, the possibility of me coming back one day and continuing on again still exists, and maybe someday things will work out so that I can do just that.
